Wiper blades require replacement primarily due to the degradation of the rubber squeegee over time.
There are many reasons:
Protect your driving safety ,pls check them every 6 months and replace them at least once a year, or as soon as they fail to wipe cleanly.
Before You Start: Safety First & Preparation
Gently pull the wiper arm away from the windshield. The spring in the arm is strong. To prevent it from snapping back and cracking your glass, place a folded towel over the windshield where the arm would hit before you start working.
Buy the Correct Refill: This is the most important step. You need a refill that matches the width and length of your current one. You can:
Step-by-Step Guide to Replacing Wiper Rubber Refill:
Step 1: Locate the Release Tab
Find the small plastic tab on the underside of the wiper blade where it connects to the metal arm. This is the release mechanism.
Step 2: Detach the Blade from the Arm
Press the tab firmly with your finger or thumb.
While holding the tab down, gently but firmly pull the entire wiper blade down and away from the J-hook. The blade should slide off the arm.
Pro Tip: Lay the detached wiper blade on the towel-covered windshield to work on it. This prevents it from accidentally scratching the glass.
Step 3: Remove the Old Rubber Refill
Look closely at one end of the wiper blade frame. You will see a small notch or opening.
The rubber refill has two metal spines (or one rigid plastic spine) running along its top. Squeeze these spines together at the open end. This will allow you to slide the rubber strip out of the frame.
Once you have it started, you can usually pull the rest of the refill out by hand. It might be snug, so wiggle it gently side-to-side as you pull.
Step 4: Insert the New Rubber Refill
Take your new refill. Note the orientation of the metal/plastic spines.
Start feeding the new refill into the same open end of the wiper frame, making sure the spines are aligned with the channels in the frame.
Push the refill through until it protrudes equally from both ends of the frame.
Step 5: Reattach the Blade to the Arm
Slide the wiper blade assembly back onto the J-hook on the wiper arm until you hear a firm "CLICK". Tug on it gently to ensure it's locked in place.
Step 6: Repeat
Repeat the entire process for the other wiper blade.
In conclusion, replacing just the rubber refill is a simple, economical DIY task for those with compatible wiper blades, requiring only careful attention to detail and a focus on safety.
